Following a detailed study of the statement launched by 70 community organizations endorsing a campaign of non-collaboration with the Canadian Security  Intelligence Service (CSIS) [1], the People’s Commission Network has identified a real threat to our community: CSIS agents. From testimonies of their victims, the People’s Commission has been able to document the intimidation tactics used by CSIS agents and we are now ready to give them a taste of their own medicine: surprise visits at work, harassment, and intimidating interrogations. On March 29th, we will greet these secret agents at the doors of their bunker with our cameras and our questions.
We invite you to join us at this rally to turn the tables on CSIS! This event takes place in the context of the month against political repression (www.cobp.resist.ca/evenements).
NO TO PROFILING, NO TO HARASSMENT, NO TO INTIMIDATION!
To profile the profilers, please:
-> Dress like a secret agent;
-> Bring a camera or recorder.

:::About the People’s Commission Network’s CSIS Watch Campaign:::
For decades, the Canadian Security Intelligence Agency (CSIS) has profiled communities and social movements, subjecting them to surveillance, harassment, threats and other abuses. CSIS is the government agency mandated to bar immigrants on so-called “security” grounds, to initiate the process of “security certificates”, to screen government employees and place individuals and organizations on blacklists. It regularly shares personal information about people in Canada with intelligence agencies overseas. As part of its work, CSIS relies upon guilt-by-association and profiling; it considers certain political and religious opinions - along with entire communities - inherently suspect. It monitors indigenous communities, groups of immigrants, mosques, and political organizations. CSIS was heavily involved in cases of rendition to torture, but emerged unscathed from these and other scandals - including the falsification of evidence and infiltration of unions - due to the protection afforded it by its broad mandate, secrecy, and lack of accountability.
Over the course of the past decade, CSIS’s budget increased by 140%, reaching 430 million dollars by 2009. In 2010, CSIS employed approximately 3000 people. With a Harper majority government and right-wing attitudes that favour increased surveillance and exclusion in Canada, problems related to CSIS are very likely to worsen over the coming years.
The People’s Commission Network views CSIS as a standard-bearer of current political trends and a powerful tool used by the State to implement racist and repressive policies. Since 2009, our CSIS Watch campaign has promoted non-cooperation with CSIS.
